Solomon’s Puzzle Quilt

I started this quilt when my wonderful quilting friend got a new Accu-cut machine for a present. I had never made a quilt with a curved piece because the cutting intimidated me, so when she offered me a chance to try out the machine- I chose this block. Piecing the blocks was really easy- they were cut so perfectly that they went together lickety-split. Arranging the blocks was another story! I tried all sorts of layouts, but since I had made the blocks in a scrappy fashion, I wasn’t happy with any of them. I finally decided on this arrangement:Solomon's Puzzle Quilt
I plan to add a narrow border and then a wide border for some applique…… we’ll see…….
This bush really does not make a good design wall, does it?

Update: I did add a wide border for applique.

This morning Ben and I are working on the owls to applique on to the border. Here is what we have so far:

Ben decided that my little flock of 4 similar owls, needed some spicing up…. so while I was busy ironing, he quickly created his own rendition of an owl…

Here it is in close-up:
